What is a first notice day, and what happens if you hold past it?
For physically tendered contracts such as COMEX metals, the first notice day is the first date on which the seller of a physically delivered contract may tender a delivery notice. From that date a long position still open can be assigned the physical commodity — even while the contract is still trading normally. ICE Brent uses the same date label for its EFP / cash-option mechanism; it has a different meaning.
- As of 2026-11-08, the soonest first notice day among the contracts covered here is CLZ6 on Tue 24 Nov 2026.
- On the COMEX metals the first notice day falls BEFORE the last trading day; on NYMEX crude it falls after. That opposite direction is why the metals have a window where a contract is inside its notice period and still trading, and crude does not.
- Cash-settled contracts have no physical-delivery notice day. The covered China contracts have no separate first-notice date in this dataset; delivery arrangements and eligibility require the applicable exchange, product and participant rules.
- No prices or quotes on this page and no investment advice; dates are computed from the exchange contract text plus the reviewed holiday calendar — check the exchange notice before trading.

First notice day, last trading day and roll date: what differs?
These dates answer different questions. First notice day (FND) concerns delivery notices; last trading day (LTD) concerns when trading in that contract month ends. A customary roll date replaces neither of them. Check delivery windows and final settlement events separately.
| Date | What to check |
|---|---|
| First notice day (FND) | First check whether the contract has this event and what its mechanism is. COMEX metals can still trade after entering their notice window; checking the last trading day alone misses that distinction. ICE Brent uses the label within its EFP / cash-option mechanism. |
| Last trading day (LTD) | Check the exchange, product and contract month. A date is not an exact termination time, a first notice day or a final settlement date. For an exact cutoff, use the source and review state shown on the contract-month page. |
| Customary roll date | The relevant CME equity-index month pages show the CME customary roll date; participants choose when to roll. Do not apply that convention to GC, SI or HG, or treat it as an exchange termination, delivery-notice or broker-account deadline. CME roll convention ↗ |
| Delivery window and final settlement | Use the contract-month page and its sources for the delivery window or final settlement event applicable to that product and mechanism. Delivery may be a period; FND or LTD is not a universal single delivery date. These events do not establish broker-account deadlines. |
For GC, SI and HG, open the relevant calendar and then the specific contract month. Read the evidence for FND and LTD separately. Official date checked, rule calculated, estimated and not verified are different states; a rule review does not mean each date was checked against an official dated schedule.

This site shows exchange dates and their evidence; it does not infer broker liquidation or account-processing deadlines. Confirm account deadlines with the relevant broker. An absent separate notice date does not mean there are no delivery rules.
Contracts inside their notice window right now
As of 2026-11-08 these contracts are past their first notice day and still trading. A long left open can be assigned the physical commodity.

Two rules that run in opposite directions
| WTI Crude (CL) | Last trading day: 3 business days before the 25th of the month preceding delivery; if the 25th is not a business day the count starts from the last business day before it. First notice day: the second business day after the last trading day. |

| Copper (HG) | Last trading day: the third from last business day of the delivery month. First notice day: the last business day of the month before delivery. |
| Brent Crude (B) | Last trading day: the last business day of the second month before the contract month — which is why the November contract stops trading at the end of September; if that day would be the last business day before Christmas Day or New Year's Day, trading ceases one business day earlier. First notice day: ICE lists first notice on the last trading day, under its EFP / cash-option mechanism. |
